I haven't played either game, or watched Kanon.
This is a reply.

This is not a reply it's a paradox
Soz, felt like I had to say it. Never played the Air or Kanon games but have heard of them briefly (via megaTokyo... yet nowhere else, odd) I am curious though. How can you make a game out of Air?

Is that a joke ('Air' = 'air') or are you actually unaware that the game came first?

It's not a joke. Now that you mention it I remember hearing the game came first but I'm still rather confused as to what part of it can actually be game-like. I assume we're not playing "Hunt the potato" or a button mashing fest to make the puppet move

It's a ren'ai game, or an interactive novel, depending on the source's preferred term of description. Wikipedia's article has quite a few links at the bottom... If you do go hunting for stuff on Air, though, bear in mind that the anime is derived from the game's sanitised 'For All Ages' version, and some of the screencaps floating around online are from the original version.
