Hehehe....
So, to celebrate me not being a complete 'tard and getting a picture into my sig, I invite people to share thoughts, nostalgia, dislike or apathy with regards to one of Japan's most famous exports. What is your favourite Pokemon? Game? Fruit flavoured snack?

Oh, I love Pokémon. The animé can get hideously repetitive (and the only interesting episodes are the banned ones, such as Electric Soldier Porygon, the one with James in a female swimsuit with inflatable breasts, and black Jynx, to name just a few), but the games are good. I'll admit to having downloaded the games and emulating them. It's annoying, though, trying to complete a game when you can't trade pokémon or do anything else that requires another person. I believe the original Red and Blue games had a maximum of 123/151 pokémon catchable when played purely solo (which I did a few times; the Missingno cheat is good for Rare Candies and Master Balls). There's now an unpassable breach in my mind that stops at Kadabra, Graveller, Haunter and Machoke (they evolve by trading, of course). When I switched to VisualBoy Advance, I discovered a very handy Save State feature (with Quick Save and Quick Load). This suddenly made battles and capturing pokémon extremely easy, since eventually a Pokéball can catch anything, and Confusion and Paralysis never bother me (as do my missed attacks - suddenly I'm hitting 100% of the time). Yes, it might make the game easier, but I figure I'm missing out on features already because it's emulated instead of how it was meant to be. Plus I'm not one to miss chances, and I like completing my Pokédex (although percentage completion is progressively dropping through each successive generation). There should be a PC Pokémon game, using all kinds of nice graphics, and the Internet for trading. It'll probably be easily hacked, though. The first game I played, though, was Yellow, which I got off a friend (floppy disk). And that was alright. A few play-throughs later, I somehow heard that you could trade your Pikachu for Lt. Surge's Raichu if you defeated all his pokémon with just your Pikachu, so I levelled madly... with no result. You shouldn't trust everything you hear on the Internet, I think. The newer games have more and more features in them, which is good enough, but I for one am not interested in pokémon contests, nor careful and select levelling in order to take on the Battle Tower (I think that's what it's called). Plus I still can't trade. Nevertheless, for sheer gameplay they've gotten better there as well. I believe the newest games (for the DS) have taken a Sonic & Knuckles approach to the game, whereby if you stick in one of Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Leaf Green and Fire Red, a few more new pokémon appear in your Pearl or Diamond. Oddly, with this approach the only pokémon you still can't catch are the starters and the legendary pokémon from the previous versions, and Tangela and Tropius. The 4th generation pokémon (the DS games) I, on the whole, don't like. Anything below Magmortar's torso looks rubbish, Rhyperior looks stupid, that weird scorpion thing Drapion is awful, and there are far too many legendary pokémon. Fourteen! The first generation only had 5, including the secret Mew. Some of them are good, though, such as Tangrowth, Pachirisu and Rotom (it's hard to find any really good-looking pokémon), but they're weighed down by the bad ones. Not to mention Chatot looks like it should evolve, but doesn't. And there's no decent DS emulators, so I can't even play the games I so criticise. I found the no$gba one, which crashed whenever I defeated a Starly (not so much crashed as stopped doing anything), so that lasted all of 5 minutes. I used to collect the Pokémon TCG, more so that I had 1 of every card rather than being able to make a decent deck. I only collected the Base, Jungle and Fossil sets before I stopped being interested, and stupidly traded my Charizard for someone's Japanese Togetic. My brother had a Venusaur at one point, but lost it playing a game with someone (unfairly, apparently, since he says he didn't know what he'd agreed to). Recently I've been really into Pokémon, going so far as to imagine some new pokémon, all evolutions/prevolutions of existing ones. I've even drawn a couple, but I'm bad at drawing so the majority will have to remain in my head. I find it odd that, currently, when Kangaskhan is bred and hatched from an egg (like all mammals, I know), it already has a baby Kangaskhan in its pouch. Also, hot Skitty on Wailord action! I just use my Ditto to breed anything I want. I'll stop talking now, because it's teatime (and I've said enough already, methinks).

HAH! HSOWA! Bulbapedia teaches me about ALL kinds of memes...
Trading/catching has never been a problem for me. Having a sister who likes similar games to you helps a lot, we got pretty much all the main Pokemon games, although since Generation 2 (Gold and Silver, IMO the best two Pokemon games, remake for the win!) I haven't really bothered with the whole, 'complete the pokedex' thing, it was just too hard in generation two, but in Diamond and Pearl it's relatively easy (hehehe, I can't believe it's called a dongle when you use the 'Sonic and Knuckles' approach, as Maruno rightly put it), although yes, Margmortar is dang ugly, although I personally like most of the new pokemon, Empoleon, the final evolution water starter, is probably the best, although I agree with the oversaturation of Legendaries (eight in the game, five you can get through events and two if you've got pokemon ranger) ...
Also, I do recommend most of the films, just 'cause they're fun.
Also: Hey hey heey! what's this, what's this? The trainer cards are catching on it seems!

Ahem. Yeah, about that...
It's not my dream team. I don't have a dream team. They're just ones I thought of that look cool. I like Darkrai, but it's a shame they haven't evolved Banette to go along with it.
Actually, there are a bunch of pokémon that should be evolved but (as of yet) aren't. They include Shuckle, Mawile, Dunsparce, Luvdisc, Breloom, Farfetch'd. Pokémon in need of prevolutions are Lapras, Skarmory and Tropius.
Although, I'm not a great fan of baby pokémon. But I've actually come up with ideas for all of those (hence why I came up with the list so quickly) as well as a few others. I can't draw, though, so you'd have to make do with descriptions (if you wanted them).
What I'd actually like to see in newer games is a change to the evolution methods of some pokémon (and change the design of some too, but that's almost completely unlikely). Such as Porygon, which evolves when traded, then evolves when traded again (that's just silly), and Leafeon (needs a better design anyway) needs to evolve with a Leaf Stone instead of happiness and location. And I'd like to be able to fish with Slowpoke (comparable to a Great Rod, perhaps), and when it caught a Shellder it would evolve (if it was holding King's Rock, it would evolve into Slowking instead).
Not to mention breeding. Weezing sprouts off Koffing from itself, so it doesn't need to breed. It should be asexual, in fact. Same goes for Corsola. Kangaskhan would probably need a prevolution or something to sort out its problem.
Is it just me, or should Eevee's ruff be a defining characteristic of all its evolutions? Only the original three have ruffs, and they looked fine and suitably different to me.

Hmmm, I dunno about the Eevee thing, I'm a big fan of Umbreon and Espeon as they are, and I think it's slightly more difficult to come up with distinctive ruff designs for the more abstract types, but Leafeon could've had one, and Glaceon wins (in my book) dumbest looking pokemon in show, every time. And about the evolution thing, a lot of the time, the developers are actually trying to retroactively cover their own backs with regards to evolution. Taking Leafeon as an example, if it had evolved with a Leaf Stone, why couldn't we have got it the original Pokemon? New evolutions for old things have to be in such a way that people don't ask annoying questions (although they slipped up a bit with Mamoswine and Yanmega I think, two out of a possibly three which should have evolved, but didn't in generation 3). I agree it's a bit contrived, and most people probably wouldn't care one way or the other, but it does make sense. Also; We must needs have Pokemon that don't evolve, otherwise completing the Pokedex becomes even more tedious! I'll agree with dunsparce (you are a worm, and you don't get to look better? ) but I quite like Mawile as it is. Also it's always a toss up I think between created new Pokemon and making old ones evolve. This is just me, but when I saw the list for Generation four Pokemon I did feel slightly cheated, it was as if most of the new pokemon were somehow related to old ones, and to me it just feels like a cheap way out. But yes, breeding could do with a change, although I don't know if there's any hope for Kangaskhan...

There are still some pokémon in G4 that could have evolved earlier, if only they had been invented at the time. I don't remember any examples, though.
If it was me, I wouldn't be really bothered about keeping all the games consistent. Having different ways to do things in each game would keep it more interesting, rather than inventing loads of little extra gimmick things instead.
New pokémon are required, I'll agree with that. G4 slipped up on the balance a bit, with lots of new evolutions for old pokémon, and not enough brand new pokémon. And yes, there do need to be pokémon that don't have evolutions (such as Lickitung; it shouldn't have Lickilicki). But some you can see having an evolved/preevolved form, and they're fine. Evolution is a fun part of pokémon, but not every pokémon needs to evolve.
And when I say new pokémon, I mean ones based on animals like the first generation, not the more abstract ones of later generations. Okay, I like Metagross and a few other abstract pokémon, but there's plenty of real animals around still to be turned into pokémon. And also, more! We started with 151, then added 100, then added 135, then added 107. That sounds like a lot, but there's always room for more new ones (more common ones, too; no more dozens of legendaries and special-types that can only be found in X room/cave). I heard the creator has ideas for a thousand of them, and hopefully they aren't all based on each other.
The first generation pokémon, quite aside from being the defining ones, were much more interesting than the others. G2 just seemed boring overall, G3 was the second best but were still throwing in a couple of unnecessary quirks (e.g. the Regis), and G4 is just being entirely unnecessary and there for the sake of "I can make weird animals!".

But... but G2 had Umbreon and Scizor, two of the best Pokemon like... ever?
I personally am not too fond of Generation three, apart from maybe Zigazoon (so adorable, yet somehow they managed to make the game sprite look like a walking toilet brush) and the legendaries, but Generation four is definetly the oddball group...
I just wonder where they're going to go with game names now... we've had colours, metals, semi precious and precious gems, so now what? Ideas, people?

Zigzagoon was fantastic, if only for its ability: Pickup. Every so often I found myself with an extra Super Potion or Rare Candy, which is always welcome. Despite the greatness of that ability, I've never created a team of Zigzagoon and just wandered around for half an hour to get lots of stuff.

There's a lot to try and join in with here~~ Maruno: If you've been using emulators, couldn't you just trade with yourself to complete your pokedex? No$GB had that feature I think (can't remember if it had to be red-to-red, blue-to-blue etc or just English-to-English etc~) so No$GBA probably does as well~~ That might allow internet play as well~ If not, with completing the pokedex, you could use codes to make wild pokemon appear that are pokemon you can't get in your game (shiny if you want XD), catch them normally with your skill, and then raise them, evolve them, breed them to get the baby forms etc as normal. It's not like you can enter any of the Nintendo events anyway so it doesn't matter if you have 'illegal' pokemon in your game. It's not really cheating anymore than what you were doing before anyway~ If you have one of those cartridges you can upload the roms/isos onto, you can run the game in an actual GBA etc as well, which is a useful trick with those out-of-print games etc you can't buy. As for "easily hacked", it probably is anyway~~ Never seen Moemon before? It's a real patch! XD I like the pokemon in the second games, but the first ones are probably more memorable overall but tend to be better drawn in the second games than the first IMO, if that makes sense. ^^ I've been slowly replaying Crystal recently which is the most recent version of pokemon I have. XD I'm up to the Elite Four and am wanting my Eevee to evolve into Espeon. My only problem at the moment is that I've only really got a party of five pokemon. My sixth one keeps changing as I can't find one that goes well with the others to complete my team. I've been thinking Magnemite/ton is probably the best one to fill in the gap since it's so good and I don't have an electric pokemon... but I don't like it that much~ Maybe I'll give it a chance... There aren't really any good bird pokemon I can easy get that would offer something great to my team... This time, my team is (can't remember all the official English-version names since I like giving nicknames to my pokemon XD)... the water one you can start with (second-form since I'm delaying its final evolution for now -gave it ice punch so it can fight dragons and grass pokemon better, surf because its great, slash because it criticals quite often and bite because its dark and may cause flinching (it's silly how they can bite rock pokemon now and its not not-effective XD)), a Beedrill (gave it that bug move that's like rage but works on consecutive hits, sludge bomb which isn't bad, harden because it's useful with Beedrill's low defence, and cut to give it a normal move), an Eevee (currently has shadow ball (ghost), bite (dark + flinch), a filler move (want to replace with psychic which I remember Espeon has~) and quick attack (I think Espeon has recover though which may be useful...), an Onix (that steel tail move so it can be super effective on rock pokemon, screech to lower enemy defence, rage because Onix' defence is so high its perfect, and rock throw for lack of better rock move?), and the second form of that dandelion-like pokemon (I'm delaying its last evolution -has paralyse spore, leech seed, mega drain ... and ... tackle @_@ I need a better normal move but should I really go for another cut move user? I don't think the last form can use headbutt either... being a dandelion XD). My sixth most common member is a Spearow (delayed Fearow -has mirror move which is good, fly which I remember being better in the original games~, and two other moves that aren't that useful >>). I keep swtiching it out for other pokemon when I need to get past obstacles (don't like all that 'you need x and y HMs to get past here and there stuff >>; . I remember when I played Gold I had that last form of a Zubat which I may consider trying to go for again... can they use fly? Can't remember... I might consider getting a Flaafy or Staryu (I love Staryu and Starmie~~) but they're not in Crystal and I'll need to play Gold again and get them etc if I want them... >>;; On another note, after I caught Suicine I ran into one of the other beasts randomly on a route! That never happened to me before all the other times I played this and Gold in the past (though I didn't play this far in Crystal last time~). ^^;; Also, lemonade is better and cheaper than super potion. That what I was buying loads of. XD I haven't really seen any pokemon newer than Gold/Silver/Crystal~~ --- -player gets 150 pokemon -shows it to Prof. Oak "Congratulations! You completed the Pokedex!" -player gets a Mew -goes back to Prof. Oak -Prof. Oak is silently thinking "How did I miss that when I had MewTwo? I'm glad he caught the Mew after the other 150 though!" -scientist goes up to Prof. Oak and asks about all these pokemon that have supposedly been around for ages really commonly but weren't included either -Prof. Oak looks embarrassed thinking "They weren't there before...!! Furthermore, we have more than one region in this world?? Oh damn I forgot about that! Now the pokemon are moving about between routes and regions so 'new' pokemon are appearing over here too! How do I cover this all up...?" =_=;;;; -guy at the start of Gold/Silver says to player "Three years ago, Prof. Oak said there were only 150 pokemon." What they edited out of the game was the rest of that sentence. "Three years ago, Prof. Oak said there were only 150 pokemon... now we all laugh at him. Ha Ha Ha!" >>;;;;;;

Well, VBA (the emulator I'm using) doesn't really do linking.
After a while of playing, though, I just get bored trying to finish everything off. That, and/or other real-world things I need to do. I'd like a pokémon game with lots and lots of quests, all unlockable at different times, so there's always things to do. If I ever manage to get my game made, I'll make sure there's lots and lots of quests.
Gold and Silver were the best for that, since after the Elite Four there's a whole new region to explore, so it's pretty much doubled the amount of things to do. Knowing there's still a lot to do is what keeps me going in pokémon games. If it's just a case of Exp Sharing a bunch of pokémon to evolve to fill out the Pokédex, it's not that interesting anymore. Plus, if I'm replaying a game, I know what's left to do (somewhat), so once I'm able to think of every event left to do, there's little incentive to actually do them.
Unfortunately, whoever made my Ruby and Sapphire roms (and Fire Red and Leaf Green too, I think) decided to cut out anything after the end of Elite Four, to force the player to buy the games. Which means all the extra stuff that triggers after the Elite Four is inaccessible.
I like emulators, since I play them at 400% speed so it's any kind of fast. Regular speed is just too slow.

Hmm, I can totally understand getting bored with endlessly roaming around... for the G3 games I sort of gave up filling the pokedex, as I've said before, it's only now with Diamond I'm actually making the effort (OMG, the blood, sweat and tears it took to get a bloody magmarizer could fill a bucket)...

I just wonder where they're going to go with game names now... we've had colours, metals, semi precious and precious gems, so now what? Ideas, people? Flowers maybe? They shouldn't go for Light and Dark because the Shin Megami Tensei series already did that, Dawn and Dusk (or Starburst and Moonlight) were done by Digimon~~ XD Crystal has even more extras and nice little features than Gold and Silver, such as multi-frame animations on the sprites for all pokemon when they first appear, battle tower stuff (though didn't interest me too much with all the restrictions~), new and different stories and side-quests with the dragon cave part, all the suicine stuff which affects a lot of the other legendaries too, and other things here and there, individual personalities for the people that can ring you, two protagonist images to choose from etc etc. ^^ EDIT: Dragonite Z makes me think of Magmar Z... could even have the Breast Fire move! >>;;

Flowers! Yes! I like that. Rose and Cherry Blossom versions.... perhaps also a flower that's slightly more masculine?
Crystal was okay... I thought all the extra bits and pieces were cool, but didn't particularly like the change in plot, now everything is centered around Suicine for no apparent reason?
But it's interesting, *gets out teacher's outfit* apparently they'd been planning for a choice of gender for the protagonist since Pokemon's inception, but they couldn 't due to limitations of the cartridges at the time (The girl from FR and LG is apparently based on these unused designs).
Also, I notice everyone's gone for different badge sets on their trainer cards, we represent multiculturalism in Pokemon, yay! Also, I wish you could mix and match badges, that would be nice....
