Yo! After having a rather awesome weekend We did have a natter About the next convention was the matter. We thought it be best to search for them early so we could get tickets as cheap as a curly wurly. So good as I am I went and found cons for 2010 i picked the best from the crowd. Here you go: Kitacon – 26-28 march 10 Northampton.www.kitacon.org/it has tons of stuff including karaoke, cosplay masquerade, tea party, amv competitions, anime allnighter, quiz, gothika concert, para para, build a mecha... sounds pretty awesome. Prices : £45 for the whole weekend – remember its 3 days though SO imagine if we went to the expo for three days plus the ball that we didn’t get tickets for... theres 36 pounds already. There are currently 445 spaces too. Minamicon – 16-18 april 10 Southamptonwww.minamicon.org.uk/events.htmlLongest running uk con. Also has loads of things : Masquerade, quiz, gundam building competition, party – with food, karaoke, cosplay cafe, hunting maids with bows – sounds hilarious, JAPANESE SNACK TASTING!!!, SAKE AND BEER TASTING, loads of workshops. It doesn’t actually say how much but i imagine probs the same amount as kitacon. So look further on, if you dare it's going to be fun so get yourselves there.

Both of these con's sound more like what I was imagining the MCM would be from my previous experience. For one thing, they're both held in hotels (hence, you stay in the same building with your anime! no travel time, and you can stay up watching anime all night!) and for another it sounds like there's loads more events than at the MCM. Anyway, I'm in, barring unforseen difficulties to whichever one collective wisdom chooses!

Well I just spotted this thread as Ive signed up to do a wee bit of promotion for kitacon. As you can imagine I will be a little biased. Anyway if you havent been to a convention before its pretty different when compared to the Expo the Expo is very good for its commercial aspects and is very much set around a huge dealers area with some large events running.
Conventions like Kitacon and Minami are more set around the social aspects of the anime community, so more parties games and events you can join in on etc. and drinking.. there is of course a dealers room so you can still buy all the anime goodies you want.
Im not going to say anything against minami to sway you its a great con Ive attended many a time but it is full and has over 100 people on the waiting list. it always fills quickly as it relatively small and being the longest running UK con its very popular. This is why kitacon runs at a similar time of year we are larger than minami and have run the once so far to great success we had over 500 people attend in april. If you want to see some things that went off check out youtube and google , just type in kitacon.
