You said you wanted to bump this thread, so I did so. And those are some interesting little facts I've learnt, yes, from Bulbapedia.
The unrealism extends to not being able to scramble up ledges that are about waist height, even though you can jump down from them, and even taller ledges than that.
Also, can anyone explain to me how Clamperl evolves into Huntail or Gorebyss? I don't mean the methods, I mean that Clamperl looks nothing like its evolutions (much like Dragonair/Dragonite).
In the game I'm making (eventually), I have Luvdisc evolve into Huntail, and Clamperl and Gorebyss are stand-alone. I'd prefer to create a new pokémon for Luvdisc's evolution (Luvless, I call it, and it looks a little like Huntail, but with Rayquaza-like sets of fins down its body), but at the moment I just want to get the game made before worrying about fakémon.

I appreciate the bumpening, and you'll have to excuse my reply, it was just my immediate reaction to the large amount of trivia time you'd put up there.
Are you sure Gorebyss wouldn't be a better evolution for Luvdisc? What with them looking more similar? As for non-lookalike evolutions, there's quite a few you could say that about... Breloom... Ludicolo.... Furret (from ground squirrel to ferret in just one step!).... I can sort of understand why they do it like that though.... sometimes your design for a starter pokemon is probably quite restricting when you'd like to go in a different direction (also, if Clamperl's evolutions looked like it did... we'd have ended up with a Cloyster clone)....
Suddenly; BIOLOGY REVISION KICKS IN: Often there are cases where the larval form of an organism looks nothing like the final evolution, if you will.... Specifically thinking here about sea squirts, which start off looking like tadpoles and end up looking like living vases.... so drastic change through devlopment is nothing new....
As for ledges... perhaps the trainer has poor upper body strength? I know I do...

I meant Gorebyss, of course. I don't fully remember all the newer pokémon (and certainly few or none of the newest ones, since I haven't played those games yet). I figured Clamperl was the most obvious example of evolutions that seem to be unrelated. The nearest I can tell is that Gorebyss has the two bikini top shells on it, but it's still a bit of a push to suggest that the middle of the Clamperl went and turned into a huge eel. Clamperl could at least become some kind of seabed crawler, with its two halves of shell as something like wings/fins to swim along from time to time. Hardly a Cloyster, and it'd look a whole lot more like the original. I can more easily see Shroomish to Breloom, although it still needs a final form (some sort of Mexican T-Rex, apparently). I'm not even sure what Ludicolo is supposed to be. I still think pokémon evolutions should look something like their predecessors. Magikarp to Gyarados is just about allowed, but Remoraid to Octillery really isn't. In my game I've fiddled with several evolutions to make them more sensible. I also say that all Eevee evolutions should have ruffs. Umbreon and Espeon are just about acceptable, as would a Drageon if it existed, for what is probably an arbitrary reason, but there was no reason for Glaceon and Leafeon to not have ruffs. They'll be getting a design overhaul once I find someone to draw them.

You know, the thing about the ledges is pretty obvious IMO. If you hadn't noticed... when you are wondering around on the map/caves/towns etc... you are in standard RPG map-mode... ... meaning the objects etc are all reduced/standardised a.k.a. super-deformed. That's why the islands and routes and towns aren't really that small, and why so many pokemon can fit into such small areas of grass/water/etc, and why ledges, boulders etc appear relatively small, houses/caves/etc look small from the outside but bigger on the inside, why items on the ground look so massive compared to the protagonist until he/she picks them up, why really massive pokemon seem so small and tiny pokemon so big, and why the protagonist is reduced to super-deformed style at the start of the adventure~~~~ What doesn't necessarily fit with all that though is the real-time system alongside the magic of flying~~ (cross the whole island in less than 10 seconds! That's an amazing pokemon! XD)

Hehehe... the superdeformation sequence is a running gag between my sister and myself. I swear, they must all be like, 'nooooo! I want to stay my real siiiiiize!!' Also: www.vgcats.com/super is all kinds of awesome. Yes indeed the magic flying pokemon.... flying faster than the speed of sound with no visible after effects of riding on their backs.... Of course I ride Giratina style now, everybody loves a 14ft tall monstrosity that embodies death and looks like a cross between a centipide and a dragon and some kind of robot!! Also: OMG POKEMON CURSORS... the ads we're getting are finally starting to get better.

I've just managed to get Pokémon Pearl to work in an emulator on my computer. It's now my latest favourite procrastination method.
Bidoof sucks. And does anyone know why Chimchar learns Flamethrower but its evolutions don't (by level up)?

Because most of the new starters suck, except for Empoleon, he's awesome.
Also; the loss of moves by evolution is pretty common... also does Chimchar start as a duel type? that might have something to do with it?

Empoleon shouldn't be part Steel. There's nothing about him that's Steel. He sucks just because of that.
Chimchar starts off as pure Fire, then immediately evolves into Fire/Fighting. Perhaps that's the reason - Monferno and Infernape aren't so dedicated to the Fire type. Still, Flamethrower is more noticeable because it's, well, a move that I'd use. Not like Taunt or any such nonsense.
I'm debating with myself whether to get a DS and a pokémon game. The emulator I have is unstable (it's crashed my computer a number of times, probably because I happen to press a button while another character is talking), and will probably forever miss out on half the content (trading/multiplayer/online/etc. stuff). I've has a quick glance at eBay, and I think I could manage to get something for £70 or so. I could even get a Game Boy Pocket with Pokémon Blue for £5 (10 hours left, zero bidders). Actually, looks like I could get a Game Boy Colour for the same price. Or a GBA for £15. Choices choices. I might even be tempted to get one of the older consoles just for the sake of it.
I don't suppose anyone's around at the moment, to ask opinions on an item ending in 25 minutes (£65 for refurbished (new case) DS Lite with brain game, zero bids). Worth the risk?
Actually, is any of this worth the cost? How much will I really play with it?

OMG you totally want a DS, if only for pictochat and Pokemon...
And of course, the wonderful thing is it's got a GBA slot as well, so you can get a nice back catalouge of games on the cheap (Metroid Fusion for a fiver baby) if you don't want to spring for actual DS games...
Although there are lots of good ones out there. Most things by Square-Enix are gold (countdown to FF4 DS begins now)

Okay, so it's taken me several days but I finally came up with a decent reply.
The DS has so many good games for it now it's not even a joke. Admittedly most of them are by Square-Enix (I just got The World Ends With You, good lord I may die before I can play it) but there's plenty, so it's not like you'd run out of excuses to play it. I guess it depends how badly you want new games to play (for me it's a good thing my birthday's in may, because it acts as a midpoint between now and christmas, yes I get bored very easily). Otherwise there's always Roms (aah the joys of classic gaming).
And funnily enough, both of my siblings also have a DS and we have never used pictochat between the three of us.
Ofa course, there's also the PSP, and the old versions are becoming cheaper now they've made the new slimline ones. In terms of graphics it is much much better than the DS, although Rocco Locco and Crisis Core are the only games I'd really play...
Done tangenting now.

In Pokemon Pearl, has anyone else had all their berries they planted (but one that hadn't sprouted yet) all mysteriously missing at the start of a month, even ones planted there only two days before? That really really sucked... I planted some seemingly rarer berries too, to try and get more... :/ It's not the only bug I've seen so far either... like that one where you are watering berries if you press and hold left or right you can walk across the screen while watering, only to cancel it IIRC if you go back to where you were and/or leave it for a while or press up or down. Not to mention how terrible and broken the automatic diary is... Bugs... 9_9 I've been putting off playing it recently partly because of that nasty berry disappearance, but also I got a bit bored of just walking about for ages... hadn't fought a gym-like battle in ages. :/ Maybe I should try and continue again when I get a bit more time to play again~ So busy lately...

Hmm... I had not noticed this mysterious berry disappearance, mostly because all my berries have withered and died because I haven't played for so long... but I'd noticed the watering thing too... although I don't remember having to go back to the same place...
Heh heh heh... the last thing I did of Diamond was catch Cresselia the other week, now almost all of the ridiculous Sinnoh legendaries are mine, alll mine!! HAHAHA!

Does anyone else know about the new Rotom forms to be released in the upcoming Platinum game? Have a look and cringe... They're poor quality because they're scans of leaflets included with new copies of Platinum. The original Rotom is included for comparison, of course. Yes, the new forms are electrical appliances. Refrigerator, oven, lawnmower, fan, washing machine. EDIT: I've used the magic of Paint.NET to fiddle with the images and make them look a bit better and more colourful.

Hehehe... I feel so validated now... I'd only seen the silhoutted pictures of those before, and constantly reading on every site 'Omg what are these new pokeymans?' when it was BLATANTLY obvious which pokemon they were new forms of... *sigh*
I'm.... I'm just wondering why they were necessary... Rotom is the Plasma pokemon... this... this means it has to look like electrical appliances...?
The only thing that I actually want to see from Platinum is Giratina popping up at spear pillar and scaring the pants off Cyrus, and then wondering around the torn world... hehe, also Orgin Forme... someone please explain to me?
