This is a thread for all important announcements related to the Anime Society. That's why it's a sticky. Announcements can include: - Room changes for meetings
- The start/end of series
- Marathons
- Bar crawls and other social activities
- Requests/asking opinions
- Other things like that
Make sure you read this thread when something's posted in it, because it's most likely important.

Genshiken marathonWhen: Saturday 24th November, 2007 Time: 10am - 5pm (approx), including lunch break Room: ER 141 (next-door to the room for Fridays' meetings) Genshiken is a comedic slice-of-life anime focusing on the daily doings of a university geek society. As anyone who saw the preview episode the other week will know, Genshiken is well worth the watch, and for many of us, in some cases it hits quite close to home! We will be showing the 12 episodes of the first series, plus the 3 additional OVA episodes which continue the story. We intend to show "Genshiken 2", the continuation to this series, next term, so if you'd rather understand what's going on then you should attend. Or if you just want to watch anime all day.

GeekSoc Winter Social - A Fairytale Christmas When: Tuesday 4th December, 2007 Time: 7pm - 1am Room: Top floor of Chase (down by the river) Price: £2
We're once again coming up to a popular seasonal event (Christmas, rivalled only by the end of exams), and the GeekSoc (collectively Sci-Fi and Fantasy Soc, GamesSoc, Treasure Trap, The Assassins and Animé Soc) are holding a big Christmas party. Which most likely will consist entirely of drinking copious amounts of alcohol, and perhaps a couple of sprigs of mistletoe to keep you on yours.
The price you pay (aside from the hangover and missing any lectures you may have on Wednesday) is £2 - this includes a free raffle ticket, with the raffle prizes being donated by the GeekSoc components. To buy your entrance ticket (only £2, remember), see the Exec (Michael, James, Helen and Felix), or alternatively you can pay on the door (at no extra cost, don't worry).
The theme of the evening is "A Fairytale Christmas". I'm expecting all the women to be wearing strap-on wings (it seems none are fortunate enough to have them naturally), but the dress code is anything you imagine is related to the theme. Alternatively, it's black tie. Alternatively, it's whatever you want. It doesn't really matter, to be honest, but it's nice to make an effort.
There's always a lot of mixing of peoples at every GeekSoc social, so you're almost certain to make a new friend (particularly after your ninth sherry). It's guaranteed to be a great night out, so don't miss out!

* ROOM BOOKING ANNOUNCEMENT! *
Hi! I finally got the confirmation for our rooms for the regular meetings this coming year, (yay!). We will be in ER142 on Mondays, and ER141 on Fridays. And we have the rooms from 7pm.
(I hope this is gonna be alright... I was pleasantly surprised, I was expecting us to end up in the darkest depths of the Chemistry department!)

That's great news! Our rooms the way God intended; easy to find, consistent, central location and with good acoustics.

Just so I don't end up getting the train down and finding the place empty, what day/date exactly is the first meeting? I'm guessing it's either next Friday or the Monday after.

Forthcoming Meetings - SPA and Room Bookings - EGM
Dear All,
I'm sorry to have to announce this, but due to a recent event where we were found to have breached university regulations by consuming alcohol in one of the university rooms, the Manga and Anime society has been issued with a two year ban from using SPA bookable rooms.
As such, this coming Friday we will be holding an EGM in place of the regular meeting.
This will take place at 7:30 at Ustinov college bar. (For all those unsure of the way, there will be a group meeting at Elvet Riverside at 7pm to walk down)
This is by no means the end of the anime society, and we are already looking into other options - namely booking college rooms. There will be a thread started for people to put forward suggestions, and we will hopefully be able to recommence regular meetings very soon.
Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

EGM Update!
Ustinov is gonna busy tomorrow night after all, so the plan is now to meet at Mary's front entrance at 7:30, and we'll try and grab a common room.
There will still be a group meeting up to walk from Elvet at 7.
Hope to see people there!

Dear All, Success!! We have a room booked for this Sunday (16th). ~ John's College: Wallis room ~ 7:00~ Sunday! (that's tomorrow) ~ As John's is a bit of a maze, we will meet at Elvet Riverside to walk up there and show people the way Meet at Elvet at 7pm for simplicity, but if you can be pretty sharp time wise that'd be good, as I foolishly only booked the room for two hours >_<'' If for any reason you are late to the meeting, it's probably best to phone someone to come get you, as the doors into the college may be locked. And even if you do make it in by yourself you may get lost forever in the labyrinth that is John's college. And that would be sad We will be watching Friday night's anime (that's lucky star and Clannad) as they're just better. So we look forward to seeing you there! (If you do get lost in college remember it's the Wallis room!
