What on Earth? ...rectal? American politics? finance? gay chat? My sensibilities, not to mention my sense of reality, have been offended. Thank goodness I can't see the adverts. Whatever happened to the good old days when DragonFable was advertised here? I've spent many a happy day on that game and why do webpages never seem to have My Little Pony advertisments? I'd like it lotsly if they did

My sensibilities, not to mention my sense of reality, have been offended. Welcome back. Hmmm... For a brief while I thought Gracewing had been assigned here as your relief from some sort of underground organisation (identifying her with gracewing.deviantart.com/ through the name and the Isle of Man connection, then following the Website link thence); may we conclude that she has been found wanting and reduced to second class stablehand, or something? EDIT: Student essays, now. And roofing.

I'm just getting manga adverts (both the "choice of three" and banners). Although earlier I did see a "Support Barack Obama" one. It's quite stupid, and as far as I can see there's no way to change what categories of adverts we get.

We used to get more-or-less relevant ads for counselling, etc. back when we used to discuss suicide, but at the moment I get the impression ProBoards have decided that n% of page views are going to spawn an Obama ad no matter what.
Maybe we should think of it as experimental poetry:
Finance and gay chat Support Obama; Essay-writing roofs Support Obama...
Actually that's dull.
Who doubts that advertising pays, Has met no would-be chatting gays, Writes his own essays, MMOs plays not, and no vibe testing knows? O! Damascene conversion rage: Obama's beaming from this page.

I've been having a look at what's been shown at the society over the past, and I've compiled some kind of list: durhamanime.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=archive2&action=display&thread=1206036758&page=1#1206036758Now, I need some help. I'm perfectly confident on all those, except for 04-05 Term 2 (because I lost the society that term, so I couldn't write down what was shown in my journal). And of course, there's nothing earlier either (because that was before my time). I just want the main series shown, because the third term anime is always patchy and various. If anyone can help fill in the list, or spots a mistake, let me know. Naturally, those able to help me are likely to be the really old members, who don't actually frequent here anymore, so this is probably a lost cause. I'm certain I saw "Full Metal Panic!" at the society, but there's nowhere it can go (aside from 04-05 Term 2, but I didn't attend the society then). It was certainly before Funoffu was shown, because I knew the characters.

Term 2 2004-2005 should be correct. It was only a short term, too (9 weeks IIRC~). The other things shown term 1 and 2 were movies/short OVAs/samples of series from what I remember... The "Fullmetal Panic? Fumoffu" threads that were never given their own section: durhamanime.proboards21.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=talk&thread=1131888826&page=1durhamanime.proboards21.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1132411325&page=1I went for the first term, watch Fruits Basket and Full Metal Panic and so forth, and then it seemed the Soc just disappeared. Was it a simple change of rooms? I was never a part of any mailing list (or here), even though I'd signed up at last year's Freshers' Fair, so I don't know if a change was announced there. Even though I can find you saying this, I only remember phanax recommending "Full Metal Panic!" to be shown but was rejected from being one of the main series shown... so maybe only a few episodes were shown (on some Fridays?) and not the whole thing. XD From what I can gather, in 2003-2004, "Cowboy Bebop" was shown, as was "I! My! Me! Strawberry Eggs" (since I remember saying I liked that series when some people were criticising it) and "Yami no Matsuei" (since some people didn't like it being shown or something). I think random episodes of "Galaxy Angel" were shown too, and some of "Ranma 1/2" and "Rurouni Kenshin", but you weren't interested in random episode showings, right? ^^ I only appeared 2004 same as you, so everything I've heard about the society 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 is second-hand. ^^

I'm certain at least most of "Full Metal Panic!" was shown, though. I remember scenes, such as the initial assignment, Sousuke rampaging through an enemy base to rescue Chidori, sitting under a tree on a cliff at night explaining her special powers, and so on. That's more than the first couple of episodes - more likely at least half of it. I'm completely confused as to when it could have been shown, though. This is really bugging me here. :S "Fumoffu" now has its own section in the Archive section, as does "Paranoia Agent". If for any reason you want to start discussing them, now you know where to look. I'm preferably looking for the main features of each year. Films and random episodes aren't nearly as "main" as full series, or even half series. It's better to not be quite so cluttered, I think.

You only moved the first of those two Fumoffu threads linked above into that new section by the way. ^^
By your description, up to at least episode 7 of Full Metal Panic! was shown during some meetings then. ^^
I don't know for certain how much of Galaxy Angel/Ranma 1/2/Rurouni Kenshin they watched other than it was mentioned a few times here and there. Maybe Alfirin will know more if she appears here again~
There would have been lots of complete OVA series and maybe short TV series, as well as films shown over 2002-2005, by the way. Full series, but short length. ^^

I didn't think it was worth moving the second Fumoffu thread, since it was just an announcement that it was going to be shown. There's a lot of old threads in the higher pages I've never looked at, and it'll probably stay that way.
I suppose it's not really worth trying to record what was shown much earlier than we already have. There were lots of minor things, but nothing significantly big, it seems.
I wonder, how about a list of past Exec members as well? Or is that too much like procrastination, since I should be working?

EDIT: Oh, Update~~
From Indefinite-kun~
Escaflowne was shown alongside Cowboy Bebop: 2003/4, term 1.
If Strawberry Eggs (excepting *one* episode Kitcatt showed when Don was away one evening, 'so we could see what people had been complaining about') was shown after 2002-03, it must have been on Fridays, when I wasn't there. However, I got the idea it was from Kitcatt's reign.
Galaxy Angel was on Fridays during Easter: random episodes, yes.
FMP (original)? Must have been Fridays. [note: assuming he means 2004-2005, so the same Fridays I was talking about, thus likely incomplete]
Sakura Taisen (TV series) was shown in the same term as Yami no Matsuei. This is probably also when Boogiepop Phantom was shown (I remember watching that one). [note: so 2003-2004 term 2 by deduction]
---
Seems I was definitely right in thinking to myself more mecha shows were shown 2002-2006 (especially with the OVAs/films etc too). Definitely more to my tastes. XD
Also leaves me thinking, Neon Genesis Evangelion was likely shown 2002-2003. I think I remember at the start of 2004-2005 (very first gathering after we watched that Grave of the Fireflies film) some people recommended it but it was rejected because it was shown previously or everyone's seen it or something...

i.e. Please move that thread too and I'll be quiet~~~~ Does no harm anyway~ XD Well, since you feel so strongly about it... ^_^ As for listing past exec, I say forget it. A waste of time IMO and just serves to inflate egos~ Especially since so many people helped out greatly in the past besides the exec that would be completely left out. Not worth the time and effort. ^^ I figured as much. I won't bother. ...(very first gathering after we watched that Grave of the Fireflies film) some people recommended it but it was rejected because it was shown previously or everyone's seen it or something... Probably because everyone had already seen it. It's one of those popular series that everyone's apparently seen. So you started off by watching "Grave of the Fireflies"? :S Gods, that's not a very optimistic beginning there. Thanks to Indefinite for his help. I'll just say "previously" rather than try to assign terms pre-2004, due to all the parts of series, etc. lying around. My tenure in the Exec is practically over now, so I'll let the next generation decide whether to care about it or not. Naturally, I'll be sticking around on the forum anyway. There's a nice roleplay here, and I'd like to keep up to date on what the society is showing so I can follow along by myself (and so that I'm not lost if/when I come back to visit). Staying here would be a way of keeping in touch with people, but there's MSN and mostly no one comes on here anyway (excepting yourself, of course, Mu-chan, and occasionally Pierre). Let's hope there's more done to change that in the future.

There are quite a few people here that just don't post much but still log in occassionally, so it's definitely more than just three people that use this forum. ^^ Just thinking a bit, maybe it would be better instead of calling that thread "What and when" something else like "Previous Main Showings" or something better than that (XD), because it can be a bit misleading for new people seeing that list and thinking that was all that was shown in the past. I mean, OVAs and films were main events in the past before 2005-2006 although harder to keep track of, especially now. ^^ I think with the forum not frequented as much percentage-wise nowadays by members is there's perhaps more focus on meeting up with people at other times, partying etc, without bringing this place into the equation. To more reclusive people like me that's no good, but I guess either times have changed or there is less enthusiasm in getting people that don't frequent society meetings or like watching anime in groups but still enjoy talking about anime with other fellow students throughout the university to interact with the society i.e. via the forum and members taking up what Kitty-tachi did haven't put the forum into the recruitment-strategy as a place of interaction for busy computer-using people. ^^ Maybe if it was advertised as a place of its own as part of the society rather than just an extension of the society, right from the recruitment period (like it was when I joined, it was written in BIG LETTERS across the blackboard of the introduction meeting and in the welcome E-mail too XD - "Talk with us at durhamanime.proboards21.com!!") people may be encouraged to look here more and students that don't frequent meetings much to still join in here, interacting about their interests, so as to not be completely outcast... Just a thought~~ ^^ *Thinks maybe I should add Maruno to MSN...?* Maruno: If possible, don't remove yourself from being an admin even if others are added or the problem that happened in the past may happen again when no-one listened to my previous warning! The Forum should be maintained by people that like it and frequent it. That's what I've always said. XD

There are quite a few people here that just don't post much but still log in occassionally, so it's definitely more than just three people that use this forum. ^^ The main problem is that they're not contributing, though. I think with the forum not frequented as much percentage-wise nowadays by members is there's perhaps more focus on meeting up with people at other times, partying etc, without bringing this place into the equation. Just a thought~~ ^^ I think now that the forum has been spruced up a bit, it'd be a good idea to advertise it a bit more. And I do agree that advertising it more during the Freshers' Fair as an actual separate place to be (and not just "oh, and we've got a forum") would be a good idea. But we can't really do much about that until next year, and it'd be out of my hands anyway by then. I could probably convince Felix to make a big deal out of it, and to make sure the forum and the society are related but not fully so (i.e. you can still join the forum even if you don't go to the meetings). *Thinks maybe I should add Maruno to MSN...?* Go ahead. ^^ It's my "mailto" in my profile. Maruno: If possible, don't remove yourself from being an admin even if others are added or the problem that happened in the past may happen again when no-one listened to my previous warning! The Forum should be maintained by people that like it and frequent it. That's what I've always said. XD I shouldn't think I have much of a say in that, I'm afraid. Of course I'd like to make sure the forum doesn't explode or anything when I can't do anything about it, but it's the society's forum in the end. There was enough of a fuss when I tried to get in touch with Dave to get the admin account (his account), and people would probably worry that I'd eventually drift out of contact as well. Of course, I'd try not to (and there are a few ways people can contact me), but it might happen. Perhaps I'll stand for the new Webmonkey position, once/if it gets created. I've already been doing the same tasks this past year anyway, and I don't think it'd be a big problem that I would no longer be a student, because it's not a mandatory position. Depends what people feel about a non-student having the position, though. It's all politics.* * Politics [pol-i-tiks] - noun - from "poly" (many) and "ticks" (blood-sucking parasites)

That whole situation though still doesn't make a single bit of sense to me. It's like excluding members that don't frequent meetings again, and I know first-hand how horrible that can be. Once they've graduated, they get excluded and considered outsiders?!?! Is a life-time membership just for show then? Are only meeting-frequenting members considered real members? People that joined the society in the past, perhaps before ratification, are no longer considered members even if they want to still be involved? Once again, that goes back to what I was saying about the society seemingly changing so that people that don't frequent meetings are outcast and the forum becomes more isolated. The entire situation is wrong. Not only that, you would ex-exec! They can't trust someone who once held a position of power? It's not like you were forcebly removed from your position, right? You're just graduating so handing over your post to someone else. In addition, marshall_banana held an admin position here for almost two university years after he graduated and was virtually the only reliable admin we had for quite some time before you! It's not like you would be the only admin either (Elscyre is currently still admin here too IIRC), and you could tell people if you are not going to frequent this place as much in the future (a bit like what marshall_banana did, but don't suddenly leave so that there are no frequenting admin left as that might be mean! XD).
Another good reason for having someone like you keep an admin position for a while longer is the hard work you've done in the past restoring this place, getting the admin account, the skins etc you made/found, that you've done a reliable and competent job so far IMO, and have an interest in helping, even for a little longer, not saying indefinitely, and that you would be a back-up in case of problems as a person of experience. As a qualified computer scientist I can comfortably say, completely changing the admin structure of a forum yearly will not fluently work. It's not like simply changing who's in charge of organising meetings etc. It's a place, something that has existed for several years and builds on experience and needs to retain some of that along the way, and reliably administrating it requires knowledge, which obviously someone that's held the position before competently and has been around for several years has. If the forum can ONLY be trustingly maintained by current exec, then it's almost like telling older or infrequent-meeting-going members to basically get lost and go away, going against what, to me at least, this forum promoted years ago when it first began. I'm not saying that you HAVE to take such a position or retain it, and I know the decision will be down the the current exec, but if those are the reasons for not allowing such a thing, it's just terrible. It should be for something like being hard to contact, unreliable, making decisions without consulting others first, being overbearing etc instead. XD
Those are of course, my opinions. ^^
Anyway, added you~ I'm using my "secret" name on MSN, as opposed to my nickname like I am here. ¬_^
Interestingly enough, I didn't know you could make it so only members and not guests could see your E-Mail address. XD

Once they've graduated, they get excluded and considered outsiders?!?! Is a life-time membership just for show then? Are only meeting-frequenting members considered real members? People that joined the society in the past, perhaps before ratification, are no longer considered members even if they want to still be involved? Then why was Indefinite etc included on that card game then when they already left? Only excluding certain members? That's like selective discrimination. I think the deal with the card game was that new sets were to be released every year, featuring everyone around in that year. In this case, Indefinite and Maria were still around for a bit of it, so they count. The other old people weren't, not in this year's set (there may yet be a "Zero Generation" set featuring everyone from before this year). Discriminating, yes, but for a reason. Of course, the card game itself is very likely nothing more than a whim. Technically, according to the DSU, membership ends with your student status. However, I think in the Anime Society constitution it says that there can be appointed honorary "true" life members. While that hasn't officially happened, I suspect it simply means that anyone and everyone remains an honorary member for life. Of all the members of the society, it's the members who regularly show up at meetings that are the most well-known and remembered (because things rotate around those people - who the Exec are, for example). Simple fact, I'm afraid. This doesn't mean non-attending members are not "real" members - it just means they're not as well known. If this forum really kicked up pace, then perhaps they would be (with our own little community here, with an amount of overlap with the attenders). And let's not forget that life after University is probably different. Many people probably just don't have time anymore for here. Just because they've left doesn't mean we're discriminating against them. Everyone's welcome here. XD). Like I said, I shouldn't think there'd be a problem with me staying around as at least a mod/admin (capable of doing at least most of everything possible that the admin account can do). I don't mean to presume, but I reckon everyone knows I care about the forum, and will believe me when I say I'll stick around and look after it, given the chance. Of course, Exec members will want a position of authority here as well, probably, even if they don't use it (like Elscyre). And they're welcome to, of course. It should be for something like being hard to contact, unreliable, making decisions without consulting others first, being overbearing etc instead. XD Those are of course, my opinions. ^^ Oh, I agree. Once again I never wish to badmouth anyone here, but as you say, the forum is a continuous thing that has no yearly restrictions placed on it by the DSU. Why, therefore, it should have its control changed annually is a mystery. (Of course, such a thing hasn't happened yet.) Control should not be changed just because the Exec changes - it should be changed when it needs to, and between people who have shown themselves to be competent at the task of maintaining it. And I think having forum control unrelated to Exec rotation might, in some little way, help people to understand that the forum isn't purely for meeting-attending members. Showing that the forum cares for itself, rather than being influenced by Exec politics, you know? Meh, probably wouldn't make any difference anyway. I'm certainly willing to show people around the forum and how it works, effectively training my replacement(s)/co-admin, so that if and when I give this place up (unlikely for the foreseeable future, though) there'll be someone trustworthy and competent to take over. I'm sure everyone would appreciate that. There's practically no actual moderating to do here, of course. We're all polite and respectable, and we're all adults so foul language and adult conversations are fine too. I don't think there's ever been a spambot here. All there is, then, is making sections for the current series (which are rarely used) and moving them around a bit when needs be. Interestingly enough, I didn't know you could make it so only members and not guests could see your E-Mail address. XD You can do a bunch of things here. Unfortunately Proboards seems to have very few functions, relatively speaking. Probably because it's free.
