Hey there everyone. Obviously we all know about the Expo, but I thought I should make everyone aware of some other stuff that'll be going on this term (on the social side of things, anyway).
First off, Halloween! The plan is to have a big party over at Anime Towers (er, that's mine, Felix's and John's house) on October 31st (which I think is a Saturday). At the moment no plans are set in stone but it's up to you guys as to whether we go on a bit of a bar crawl first. Or anything else you want to do, please, suggest! Costumes are encouraged but obviously not compulsory, you can come in either traditional Halloween costume or as a scary/evil anime character.
Next up, we like to have at least one bar crawl per term, and I was thinking sometime in mid to late November, to give everyone a bit of a breather from the Expo. Again, cosplay is encouraged but not required (most of usually dress up for these things - it's much more fun). We'll more than likely meet at Mary's at 7:30 and move on to one, maybe even TWO more bars!
Finally, there'll be a Christmas party of some variety. It's pretty far away at the moment, and I haven't really thought much about it, but I think it'd be fun to bring back the anime quiz (whihc we kind of failed to do last year). Any suggestions are more than welcome.

How about an Anime drinking game? Pick a silly, slightly ridiculous anime to watch a couple episodes of, and devise a drinking game around it. Preferably an anime that everyone knows well, to make it funnier.

Drink once for a magical girls transformation sequence, twice if it's Sailor Moon.
Drink once anytime a number of characters in a scene fall over rigid, drink twice if it's specifically a "Takahashi falldown"
Drink once for an in-joke from another anime or Star Trek.
Drink once at the beginning of the show, (this is also cumulative) if one of the seiyuu is Hayashibara Megumi, Tsuru Hiromi, Sakuma Rei, Hidaka Noriko, Shimamoto Sumi, Tomizawa Michie, Inoue Kikuko, Aya Hisakawa, Shimazu Saeko or Ikeda Shuhichi.
Drink once when the laws of physics are violated (depending on your knowledge of physics, this is almost the entire show for anything mecha-related)
Drink once every time animation is reused in a series.
Drink once whenever bad food is prepared by an anime girl, half if someone actually eats it.
Drink once when someone is about to say something monumental only to be interrupted by a third party.
Drink once when someone shouts out the name of the attack before attacking.
Drink once on bathing suit scenes, the whole thing if it's actually relevant to the plot.
Drink once whenever the main character has fantasy dream sequences, chug if (s)he is rudely awakened by reality.
Drink once whenever excessive and needless violence is used. (Warning: Only for drinkers with a heavy tolerance!)
Drink twice whenever someone bleeds from the mouth.
Drink twice for a nosebleed.
Drink twice every time someone makes an elaborate death speech.
Drink twice every time someone dies just as they're about to say something important.
Drink half every time a character's hair changes to some completely weird color when in dim light. (such as Rally's hair in Silent Mobius, or Miyu's to an extent, whenever she's in the Dark.)
Drink once anytime a Miyazaki flying machine appears on the screen.
Drink whenever possible (e. g. in between breaths) while watching dubs. It dulls the pain.
Designated driver rule: Drink once when the military actually does a strategically intelligent move.
Designated driver rule: Drink once if you hear song lyrics that have a direct bearing on the plot.
Or the Yu-Gi-Oh abridged drinking game. Everytime friendship is mentioned, you take a drink - for that particular episode.

Thats actually pretty much exactly what I'm thinking. But you can't do that with something really awesome, like S.A.C., it has to be something totally silly and ridiculous, like....um....pretty much any Shonen-Ai or Shojo (sp?).

Certain series will have their own certain rules. For instance I found a Gurren Lagann (surprise surprise) drinking game - but I don't think it has enough rules. We should always make up some of our own.

OK. The Halloween party is definitely on, here's the updated details: Date: Sat Oct 31 Time: 7pm Meeting place: Mary's College, front entrance. Late-comers can meet us in the bar Plan: We'll be hanging around Mary's for a while, then moving on to Hild Bede (seeing as it's on the way - and has the burger van), then finally we'll be going to Anime Towers (this is our house - if you need directions or address email me). Here there'll be hopefully a few games, LOTS of food, (and drink, for those of you that way inclined XD), some films or anime, and general fun. People are welcome to stay the night but be aware that we only have two couches....The alternative for those of you who live far away is the night bus. Hope lots of you can make it.

The details for the Cosplay Bar Crawl are as follows: Date: Saturday 21.11.09 Time: 7pm Meeting Place: Mary's Plan: We'll be hanging around the Hill bars, because, let's face it, they own the Bailey ones by a mile. I was thinking Mary's, Trevs/Mildert, and finish off with Butler or Ustinov. Costume: Not compulsory, but encouraged (I would advise that most of us dress up for the occasion - it's a lot of fun!). There is no specific theme this time - just general anime characters, and video game characters are fine too. Preparation: Cosplay shopping trips are fun. Fact. So, we should take a Wednesday afternoon to get together and go round town to shop. In my experience we end up with very little of what we actually need, but it's a lot of fun. If people would be up for this, let me know.

Don't forget, everyone, it's the Christmas party tomorrow! Starting at approximately 8pm at Anime Towers, we'll be exchanging Secret Santa presents, watching movies, playing games, and eating lots of stuff. Costumes optional.
